Clear answers about how Minyma works today.

Minyma keeps the answers direct, concrete, and current so the product story stays easy to trust.

Privacy and encryption

Is Minyma end-to-end encrypted?

Yes. Message and attachment content are encrypted on sender devices and decrypted on recipient devices, using hybrid post-quantum end-to-end encryption, protected by both classical (X25519, Ed25519) and post-quantum (ML-KEM-768, ML-DSA-65) cryptography.

Does Minyma require a phone number?

No. Minyma uses Minyma ID-based onboarding and does not require a phone number or social account to get started.

How do Minyma IDs work, and why is there a number after my name?

Your Minyma ID is a name plus a number — for example quiet-harbor.4821. The name is what you choose, and the number lets many people use the same name without clashing, so you never have to settle for a cluttered handle just because a name is popular. You can pick your own number or let Minyma assign a random one for you. During onboarding, availability is checked as you type, so you know right away whether your chosen name and number are free. To reach someone, you share your full Minyma ID — both the name and the number — or your QR code. Because Minyma identifies you this way, you never have to hand out a phone number.

Does Minyma show ads or track me?

Minyma does not use ads or behavioral tracking.

Does Minyma sell or share my data?

Minyma does not sell or share personal data for advertising.

Does Minyma hide all metadata?

No service can honestly claim zero metadata, so we won't. Minyma protects message content end to end and uses sealed-sender delivery for messages, receipts, and call signaling, while the service uses limited operational metadata for routing, delivery, and reliability.

Does Minyma use post-quantum cryptography?

Yes. It is live. Minyma ships full hybrid post-quantum encryption: hybrid PQXDH key agreement combines X25519 with ML-KEM-768 (NIST FIPS 203), the Double Ratchet mixes a fresh ML-KEM-768 secret into the key schedule at every step, and every message is bound with dual Ed25519 + ML-DSA-65 (NIST FIPS 204) signatures. Each post-quantum mechanism runs alongside a proven classical one for layered protection, with downgrade protection so the post-quantum part cannot be silently stripped from session setup.

Does this protect against "harvest now, decrypt later"?

Yes. Because confidentiality is hybrid and the post-quantum ratchet is continuous, recorded ciphertext stays protected against a future cryptographically-relevant quantum computer.

How does Minyma authenticate identities against quantum attack?

Every content message carries dual signatures: classical Ed25519 and post-quantum ML-DSA-65 (NIST FIPS 204), so impersonation is resisted even against a quantum adversary. Minyma also uses trust-on-first-use pinning with safety numbers and scan-to-verify QR.

Does Minyma have disappearing messages?

Yes. You can set messages to disappear automatically, with timers from 30 seconds to 4 weeks. Set an app-wide default, or override it per conversation in that chat's details - each thread can follow the default or use its own timer.

Does Minyma block screenshots?

Minyma provides screenshot awareness after iOS reports a capture, and during active screen recording or mirroring it can hide sensitive content while capture is happening.

Does Minyma store any data at all?

Minyma still needs limited service and operational data to run registration, routing, delivery, abuse prevention, and support, even though message and file content are designed to stay encrypted.

Can Minymata read my messages?

Minyma is designed so the relay does not have the private keys required to read message or attachment plaintext.

Minyma Voice, translation, and voice notes

What can Minyma Voice do?

Minyma Voice can help compose messages, open chats, start New Message or New Group flows, search, pin or mute threads, answer WeatherKit weather and forecast questions, speak assistant replies in the language selected in Settings > Voice, open settings, open local pickers, read public Help, Terms, and Privacy Policy pages aloud, and stage sensitive actions like sending, calling, attaching, or translating private content for review.

Can Minyma Voice answer general questions?

Yes. Beyond app commands, Minyma Voice can answer everyday general-knowledge questions — facts, explanations, quick math, recommendations — conversationally, keeping spoken answers brief. General answers come from the AI model and may occasionally contain mistakes, so double-check anything important. General conversation uses your voice minutes like any other session time, and app actions remain limited to the reviewed, allowlisted set — a spoken answer never changes anything in the app.

Does Minyma Voice use my location for weather?

Only when you ask for local weather. Local weather requests use Apple WeatherKit and ask for a current location fix for that answer. If you name a city or place, Minyma geocodes that requested place instead of using your current location.

Can I choose the voice language?

Yes. Settings > Voice includes a Voice Language picker. English is the default, and the picker includes a broad launch set such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Turkish, Ukrainian, Russian, and more. For the exact current list, open Settings > Voice in the app. Minyma does not automatically switch languages because of an accent, name, or background audio.

Do I still need to say "Hey Miny"?

No. The current voice experience starts from the in-app voice control, so a wake phrase is not required.

Can Minyma translate what I dictate?

Yes. If you dictate or type a draft, you can ask Minyma to translate the current draft. The translation is staged so you can replace, append, or cancel before sending.

Can Minyma translate a received message?

Yes, but only after an explicit request or consent step. Reading and translating private message content is more sensitive than reading sender names, so Minyma keeps that boundary visible.

Are voice notes encrypted?

Yes. Voice notes are end-to-end encrypted, exactly like messages and attachments. They are recorded locally, previewed before sending, and designed to expire after first listen.

Does Minyma automatically transcribe voice notes?

No. Minyma never transcribes or analyzes your voice notes on its own. Nothing you record is processed beyond delivering it, encrypted, to your recipient.

Attachments and file sizes

How large a file can I send?

You can share photos, videos, and documents. File-size limits scale with your Minyma membership, and larger files upload in the background so you can keep messaging while they finish. Videos can be sent in a compressed size or in HD.

Why does sending a large file take a while?

Attachments are encrypted on your device and uploaded directly to storage, so transfer speed depends mostly on your own internet upload speed rather than on Minyma. To keep things smooth, uploads continue in the background, you see a progress indicator, and videos can be compressed before sending. Changed your mind mid-send? Tap the ✕ on the upload bar to cancel - nothing is delivered and the partial upload is cleaned up.

What can I do with a photo or file someone sent me?

Open it full screen and you can Forward it to another chat in-app, Save it to Photos, or delete it from your device. Saving uses an add-only permission: Minyma can add a photo to your library but can never read or browse your photo library. A chat's Details → Media & Files lists everything shared in that conversation, with swipe actions to save, forward, or remove.

How long are attachments kept on the server?

Only for a short, limited delivery window so offline devices can fetch them. After that they're deleted from the service, downloaded or not. Your own device keeps what you've received and opened.

Presence and activity

What does "Online now" mean?

Exactly what it says: the person is actively using Minyma at that moment. Background delivery to a sleeping phone never shows as "online," and "last seen" reflects when someone genuinely used the app - not when their device happened to receive data. Sharing your presence is optional and can be turned off in Settings → Privacy.

Calls, devices, and control

Does Minyma support audio calling?

Yes. Minyma supports voice calling on iPhone and iPad with encrypted signaling and live media transport.

Does Minyma support video calling?

Yes. Minyma supports direct 1:1 video calling on iPhone and iPad, and current group threads can start and join live group voice and video calls in the same conversation flow.

How does Minyma protect call signaling?

Minyma uses encrypted call signaling with sealed-sender delivery across current direct and group call flows.

Does Minyma support multiple devices?

Yes. You can link more than one device to your account, and the messages you send and receive stay in sync across your linked devices. Each device keeps its own encryption keys, a newly linked device starts fresh and shows messages from the point it is linked forward, and you can unlink a device at any time.

What does the duress PIN do?

Entering the duress PIN immediately wipes Minyma on that device, back to a fresh install. When account deletion is enabled, the deletion request is signed and sent at the same moment and completes on any working connection - the wipe itself never waits for the network.

Deletion and recovery

What happens when I delete my account?

Uploaded ciphertext attachments are deleted from Minyma's servers under normal retention and account-deletion flows. Delete Account is intended to remove relay-held devices, queued delivery data, profile information, push tokens, and uploaded ciphertext attachments. It does not erase content already downloaded to other users' devices. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

Can Minymata recover my account, keys, or messages?

No. This is by design, and it is the same reason Minyma can keep your conversations private: Minymata never holds your encryption keys or your decrypted messages, so there is no password to reset and no master key to restore from. If you delete your account, or lose access to it without a backup you control, Minymata cannot recover it for you and cannot restore your messages — you would set up a new account. A recovery you control is the only recovery there is, so keep a way back into your account in a safe place.

What does Reset Local Identity do?

It wipes Minyma on the current device and returns it to onboarding without automatically deleting the relay account. If that same Minyma ID still exists on the relay, using it again may require a link token from another signed-in device. If you no longer have another signed-in device, you will need to create a new account with a new Minyma ID.

Is Minyma formally audited?

Minyma's hybrid post-quantum encryption is live and field-tested, and is built on the platform's vetted cryptographic implementations of the NIST standards (FIPS 203 and FIPS 204). It is under continuous internal security testing and is queued for independent third-party cryptographic review, with review milestones published as they are completed.
